Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus (1756-1791)

Salzburg, Mozarthaus Makartplatz 8, seen from the entrance of the Mirabellgarten. - From 1773 to 1787 the Mozart family lived in a spacious eight-room apartment in the so-called "Tanzmeisterhaus", which belonged to their friends the Spöckner family. The composer himself moved to Vienna already in 1781, after having composed numerous symphonies, divertimenti, serenades, piano and violin concertos, a bassoon concerto, arias, masses and other sacred works in this apartment. After large parts of the building were destroyed in World War II, it was rebuilt from 1989 onwards according to original plans; today it houses a museum. The musical quotation shows the beginning of the canzonetta "Deh! vieni alla finestra" from the opera "Don Giovanni" in the German version: "Horch auf den Klang der Zither" ("Listen to the sound of the zither").
